New Year's Resolutions... we all make them, most of us forget
them by mid-January and very few of us keep them all year long. As we
come to Year's end, take this time to reflect on last year's
achievements, successes and happy moments and take these with you into
2013. Take some time to think about what you want to accomplish this
upcoming year.
Whether your goals revolve around health, work, relationships, etc. know that you can reach these goals if they are important to you.
This is a time for new beginnings; a time for reflection and celebration. Look back at the past year and think about all that has taken place in your life. Remember each experience for the good that has come out of it and knowledge you have gained. Remember the efforts you have made and the goals you have achieved. Remember the love you have shared and happiness you have brought. Remember the laughter, joy, hard work and tears. Reflect on the New Year to come. Think of new beginnings and the celebration of life. -"A Year of Time" by Steven Cloud.
So here is my advice to you: make goals, not resolutions.
• Make goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, rewarding and timely... make them SMART!
For example: I will lose 10 lbs. in 3 months by eating less processed foods and more whole foods. This is much more achievable and SMART than I will lose weight this year.
• Make sure your goals resonate with you so you are motivated to achieve them. They must be pertinent and important to you.
• Envision yourself achieving your goals. Frame them into a positive statement! I will exercise at least 4 times every week.
• Goals should constantly be achieved, re-evaluated and made anew. We should always be working towards our goals. Without direction, we are left to wander. So make your goals your direction.
• If and when you find yourself getting off track stop, re-evaluate and re-vise. Figure out why you got off track, overcome those barriers and move forward. Life happens; we get side tracked but know that you can always get back into it.
• Share your goals with your support system. When we share our goals with loved ones, our goals become real and we are made accountable for them.
Take this New Year as an opportunity to become your best self yet! You will never regret it!!
